Cookie policy
Last updated 17 October 2026
We use essential storage to run the website. We do not currently use optional analytics, advertising cookies or marketing pixels. Our short cookie notice provides this information; selecting OK acknowledges the notice and does not authorise optional tracking.
What cookies and browser storage do
A cookie is a small value saved by your browser and sent to the relevant website with requests. It can help a website recognise a signed-in session. First-party storage belongs to the website you are visiting; third-party storage belongs to another provider.
Local storage and session storage hold information in your browser without automatically sending it with each request. Local storage can remain between visits. Session storage is kept separately for each browser tab and normally ends when that tab is closed. Browser restore features may restore a previous session.
Cookie categories and what we use
Strictly necessary: supports a service you request, such as secure sign-in, carrying a booking forward or remembering that you have seen the cookie notice. We use the essential items listed below; acknowledging the notice is not a condition of using these services.
Performance and analytics: measures visits, navigation or errors to understand how a website is used. Depending on the tool, this can involve identifiers and personal information. We do not currently use analytics cookies or visitor-tracking tools.
Functionality and preferences: remembers choices to adapt a website, such as a preferred display or language. Our current preference storage only remembers the cookie-notice acknowledgement and the details needed for the service you requested. We do not use separate optional personalisation cookies.
Targeting and advertising: helps select advertisements, measure campaigns or recognise interests across websites. We do not use advertising cookies, remarketing pixels or cross-site marketing profiles.
A category label does not by itself decide whether consent is needed. We explain each actual purpose, and would request a new choice before introducing optional tracking.
What this website stores
The items below are used only for essential functions you request or to remember that you have acknowledged the cookie notice. They are not used to build advertising profiles.
| Name and type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
esa_sessionFirst-party cookie | Keeps you signed in after a successful login. Holds a random token, not your password. Protected with HttpOnly, SameSite and HTTPS settings. | Without Remember me: browser session, with a maximum of 12 hours on our server. With Remember me: up to 14 days. Signing out removes the cookie and ends that session. |
esa-quote-<random ID>First-party session storage | Carries the journey, vehicle, load, requested times and email address you entered into the booking form when a long itinerary would make the booking link too long. Used only when needed. | For the browser tab's session; there is no separate fixed expiry. Clearing session storage removes the saved journey handoff. |
esa-cookie-preferencesFirst-party local storage | Remembers that you selected OK, the notice version, the time of acknowledgement and its expiry. Contains no account or advertising identifier and grants no optional-tracking permission. | The acknowledgement is valid for six calendar months. We stop using an expired record and show the notice again. Local storage has no automatic browser expiry, so the record may remain until replaced or cleared. |
The cookie notice and your controls
Our bottom notice has an OK button and a link to our privacy policy. OK simply records that you have seen this essential-storage information. It does not enable analytics, advertising or other optional tracking. Continuing to browse does not create a consent record.
Use in the footer or on this page to reopen the notice. Its acknowledgement is shared with other open tabs where browser storage is available. You can remove the acknowledgement by clearing this website's local storage in your browser settings.
The notice appears again after six months, if its stored record is cleared or invalid, or if the notice version changes. If we introduce optional tracking, we will explain the purposes and ask for a separate choice before enabling it. An acknowledgement now does not approve future tracking.
If your browser blocks storage, OK still dismisses the notice for the current visit, but it may appear again after reloading. Essential sign-in and booking functions do not depend on pressing OK. Acknowledging the notice is separate from agreeing to our terms, applying for a business account or choosing service emails.
Maps, route calculations and payments
Route maps load image tiles from OpenStreetMap. When a map is displayed, its provider receives your IP address, browser information, the requested map areas and our website origin. We configure the tile requests so private booking paths and access tokens are not included in the referrer. This is a request to display map images, not an advertising or analytics integration. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
Postcode lookups and road-distance calculations run on our server. We send postcodes to postcodes.io and coordinates to our routing provider, currently OSRM. These lookups do not install cookies in your browser; they do not include your name, email or description of the goods.
Where card payment is available, checkout takes you to a page hosted by Stripe. Stripe operates its own payment and fraud-prevention technology, including any cookies used on its pages, under its own notices. This website's cookie notice does not control a separate provider's website. Read Stripe's privacy policy before using its service.
The website fonts are served from our own domain. We do not load Google Analytics, advertising pixels or embedded social-media trackers.
Browser controls
Your browser settings let you inspect, block or remove cookies and other site data. Clearing our sign-in cookie signs you out; clearing a booking draft can prevent a long journey from transferring into checkout. Clearing the preference record makes the banner appear again. Blocking all storage can affect these requested functions.
Settings are specific to each browser and device. If you visit using another browser or device, the notice appears there too. Browser tools can also restrict third-party requests independently of this website's cookie notice.
